High risk countries – why are so many Visitor Visas refused?
It can be very easy for citizens of a few countries similar to Australia to get a short-term visa (3 – 12 months) for a holiday in Australia or to see family here.
But many countries are considered “high risk” countries for those seeking visas for Australia. This is generally because Australia has a high standard of living and is considered “the lucky country” in so many ways and unfortunately some visitors from these “high-risk” countries have broken the rules by working here when they shouldn’t or by overstaying their visa term.
All applicants from these countries must now convince our Immigration department that they are not going to do the wrong thing when they get here. You have to prove that you have enough money for your travels, that you will leave the country before your visa expires, that you will not work if your visa says “no work” and that you have good character and health.
If you are visiting a family member in Australia, they may be able to help you to prove that you will do the right thing. If you are coming for a family event, a wedding, or another special occasion, you should discuss your options and prospects with an expert to make sure you will get your visa in time.
